Baring some ‘sensitive areas’, our candidates will file nomination from each and every ward of Kashmir, says Congress

Srinagar: The State Congress on Thursday said that over 550 candidates of the party have filed their nomination papers for the upcoming Municipal elections in Jammu and Kashmir, slated to be held from October 8.

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) vice President and MLC, G N Monga said that over 500 candidates from the state congress have filed their forms for the upcoming ULB polls in Jammu region.

He added that in Kashmir region, barring some sensitive areas, the congress candidates from each and every ward will be filing their nomination papers for the polls.

Monga said that in Srinagar, three of their candidates have filed their forms on Thursday in the first phase while as many more candidates will be filling their papers in next phases.

He also said that the party candidates will be contesting in the elections from each and every ward. Monga further added that the Congress is very much confident that it will attain the maximum wards in the elections.

On Wednesday BJP had said that they are determined to contest the upcoming Municipal polls from each and every ward of Kashmir, saying that those who boycotted the elections did injustice with people of Kashmir.

Reacting over BJP leader’s statement, Monga said that everybody is aware about the BJP’s ground strength. “I can’t say whether it will be a head to head contest or not as the forms are still be filed by the candidates. Let this process end first,” he added.

The BJP is expecting a head to head contest in the elections, saying in Kashmir region most of the candidates who are going to take part in the elections will contest on BJP’s ticket.
