Srinagar: Students of the Kashmir University on Monday held a protest against the killing of scholar turned militant Mannan Wani.

According to reports, hundreds of students marched in the university amid pro-freedom and anti-India sloganeering.

Scholar turned militant Mannan Wani was killed along with an accomplice in northern Kashmir’s Handwara on Thursday.

Meanwhile, three Kashmiri students were been suspended by the Aligarh Muslim University for offering funeral prayers in absentia for scholar-turned-miliatant Mannan Wani, reported the Times of India.

However, students denied that they had gathered to offer prayers. While talking to Free Press Kashmir, Abdul Haseeb, one of the students who has been charged with sedition, said, “For 5 to 6 months, Kashmir was shut in 2016. We sat together to discuss what we should do in this situation. We were sitting in front of Kennedy Hall which is around 400 steps away from the main street. Keeping the situation in India in our minds, we discussed not to do any protests.”

Earlier, Mehbooba Mufti, the former Chief Minister of the state said that Mannan’s death was ‘entirely our loss’.

“Today a PhD scholar chose death over life & was killed in an encounter. His death is entirely our loss as we are losing young educated boys everyday,” she tweeted.
