South Kashmir: Militants open fire on army vehicle in Shopian, gunfight breaks out in Tral

Srinagar: Militants on Tuesday afternoon opened fire on a mobile bunker vehicle of army personnel at a village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A police official said that militants opened fire on the Casper vehicle of 23 Para in Meemender area of Shopian around 1:50 pm.

The army personnel immediately retaliated, he said.

There were no immediate reports of any fatalities on the either side during the exchange of fire, he said.

The forces immediately after the attack cordoned off the whole area to nab the attackers, said the official.

Meanwhile, a gunfight took place between militants and the armed forces in Tral region of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday, police said.

An official said that a gunfight broke out after the forces launched a cordon and search operation in Chankitar village of Tral.

Reports said that two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area.

A heavy exchange of fire was taking place when this report was being filed.
