Valley observes shutdown in response to call given by Joint Resistance against conducting ‘sham’ elections

A complete shutdown is being observed in Kashmir valley in response to the shutdown call given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL).

Shops and other commercial establishments remain closed in Srinagar and other district headquarters of the valley, reported Greater Kashmir.

The strike also witnessed thin flow of traffic on the otherwise busy roads of this capital city. Due to non availability of public transport, work at government offices was affected as well.

Forces are deployed in old city including the ‘sensitive areas’.

Earlier, JRL had called for a complete shutdown across Kashmir on November 17 against the Panchayat Polls.

In a statement issued by the JRL, it had appealed Kashmiris to observe strike in the poll bound areas on November 20, 24, 27 and 29 and also on December 1,4 and 8 to a give a “clear message to the world community that people have no faith in the sham elections which are held under the presence of lakhs of additional forces.”
