KCCI, transporters hold protest against human rights violations in Kashmir

Srinagar: In view of the protest called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik against Human Rights violations in the valley, transporters and Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industries (KCC&I) staged separate protests in Srinagar on Saturday.

Scores of KCC&I members headed by its president Sheikh Ashiq assembled at Srinagar’s Press Enclave and chanted slogans against the HR violations and killings in Kashmir.

The members of KCC&I said that there must be an immediate end to the human rights violation in the State as thousands of people have been killed, maimed and blinded in the State so far.

“Even the 18-month-old baby was not spared as she lost her eyesight due to a pellet injury in her right eye,” they said, adding that Human rights organizations should take notice of such violations here and help in putting an end to it.

Meanwhile, Scores of transporters also staged a protest in Partap Park in Srinagar.

Amid sloganeering, the protesting transporters were carrying banners, reading slogans like “Stop Killing Kashmiris”, “Stop genocide of Kashmiris” and “Kashmiryun ka qatal aam band Karo band Karo”.

The protesters appealed to the world community to raise their voice against the ongoing killings of Kashmiris, arresting of innocent youths and harassment of people.

Earlier, the JRL had called for protests against human rights violations in Kashmir and had also appealed people to observe December 3 to 9 as human rights week. Moreover, JRL has said called for a shutdown on December 10, observed globally as Human Rights Day and has urged people to observe it as ‘Black Day’. (KNS)
