Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir police released a statement regarding the ‘mysterious’ blast that took place inside a tuition centre in Pulwama around 2 pm.

“Today at about 1430 hours some explosion took place inside the class room of standard 10 of a private school (tuition centre) known as Falai-e-Millat at Narbal in district Pulwama, police said Wednesday in a statement.

“In this incident reportedly 12 students have sustained injuries. They were rushed to the hospital and stated to be stable,” the statement read.

“Police officers have reached at the spot and are ascertaining the nature and circumstances of the blast. Case has been registered and investigation is in progress,” the statement said.

Reports said that a blast took place inside a private school in Narbal area of Kakapora where the students were receiving winter tuition around 2 pm, following which 28 students were injured.

The Medical Officer of Kakpora told Greater Kashmir that fourteen students with splinter injuries were brought to the facility for treatment.

“Three among the injured were referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment,” he said, adding that the students had received injuries mostly in their limbs. Three more injured were shifted to district hospital Pulwama for treatment.

Meanwhile clashes erupted in the area as soon as police arrived at the spot.

The policemen resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse the protesters, triggering further clashes.
Reports added that announcements were being made over the public address system of a mosque asking youth not to engage in stone-pelting.
