Civilian killed during clashes near Handwara gunfight site

Srinagar: A civilian was killed during clashes near the gunfight site in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

According to KNS Correspondent, a civilian identified as Waseem Ahmad Mir, son of Muhammad Akbar Mir of Sagipora Langate sustained injuries during the clashes and later succumbed.

The slain was declared brought dead by doctors at District Hospital Handwara.

The gunfight as per police was going on when the report was last filed.

Earlier, a CRPF Inspector and a policeman were killed and five other forces’ personnel wounded after a militant presumed dead during a gunfight opened fire in Handwara.

Official sources told GNS that after a joint search team of police, CRPF and army went to retrieve the militant bodies amid a lull, one of the two militants who was believed to be dead stood up and fired indiscriminately leading to injuries to CRPF Inspector, a policeman and five army men who were shifted to hospital.
