BJP calls for disqualification of NC’s Akbar Lone for raising pro-Pakistan slogans

Srinagar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday sought the disqualification of National Conference candidate for Baramulla Lok Sabha seat Muhammad Akbar Lone for allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans.

“It is to bring to your kind notice that National Conference Candidate from Baramulla parliamentary constituency Muhammad Akbar Lone through his speech resorted to ultimate disrespect to the country by raising pro Pakistan slogan— “Pakistan zindabad” which has hurt the sentiments of people of not only Jammu and Kashmir but also the people of entire India,” read the BJP letter to chief electoral officer (CEO), Jammu and Kashmir.

Through the letter, BJP spokesman Altaf Thakur requested the CEO to take serious note of Lone’s speech.
He said the videos of the speech were available on social media.

Lone while addressing a rally on Saturday had said that ‘if anybody abuses Pakistan, he will abuse him ten times in return.’

“The other side of this is a Muslim country, it should remain prosperous and successful. Our friendship with them should intensify. India and Pakistan should have a friendship with each other and I am an admirer of this friendship. If anyone will abuse them once, I will abuse him ten times from here,” said Lone.

This is not for the first time Lone has given statements in favour of Pakistan.

Last year in February during the session of the Legislative Assembly, Lone raised pro Pakistan sloganswhen the members of the BJP raised anti-Pakistan slogans.

While talking to the reporters outside the house, Lone had said, “I am a Muslim first. My sentiments were hurt when they (BJP MLAs) were shouting “Pakistan Murdabad” slogans. I couldn’t control my emotions and raised Pakistan Zindabad slogans.”
