In protest against the alleged failure of the authorities to nab the killers of the RSS leader Chandrakant Sharma, protesters burnt the effigy of the Governor Satya Pal Malik and damaged the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kishtwar.

According to a report by the Greater Kashmir, hundreds of people marched from police chowk to the mini secretariat to register their protest against the alleged failure of the administration to nab the killers of RSS leader Chandrakant Sharma and Parihar brothers.

The report said that the protesters who were raising slogans against the governor and the administration hurled stones on the mini-secretariat, smashed windowpanes and doors of the building.

An official said that the columns of the police, CRPF and ITBP were rushed to the spot who dispersed the protesters.

The protest was held amid a shutdown called by the Sanathan Dharam. Pertinently, restrictions under 144 CrPC were put in place in the area three days ago.

On April 9, unidentified gunmen entered inside the hospital and shot dead an RSS leader while he was on duty in the hospital where he works as a medical assistant.

In the attack, his PSO was killed on the spot while some civilians fell unconscious leading to the assumptions of civilian’s death.

The RSS leader’s killing triggered violent protests with angry mourners ransacking the office of the senior superintendent of police, prompting authorities to impose strict curfew in the communally-sensitive town and adjoining areas, following which the Army was called for a flag march.

The Jammu and Kashmir had said that they detained several ‘over-ground workers’ (OGWs) for interrogation in connection with the killing.
