Over 20 civilians injured in clashes with armed forces during Search Op in Shopian

Srinagar: During a cordon and search operation in South Kashmir’s Shopian region, over twenty civilians are believed to have been injured.

Police sources said that the armed forces had cordoned off the area around Pinjura village after intel about the presence of militants in the area.

As the armed forces started a search operation, some young men hit the streets and started throwing stones on the forces to disrupt the operation.

The armed forces then fired pellets and tear gas to chase away the protesters in which at least twenty youth were injured in the clashes.

Meanwhile, authorities blocked cellular internet services in the area.

Earlier, at least 60 civilians were injured, seven of them seriously in armed forces action during clashes following a gunfight in Kulgam district.

The operation was called off as militants have reportedly managed to escape.
