Modi Govt has no immediate plan to scrap Article 35-A or trifurcate JK: Report

The Modi government has no immediate plans to scrap Article 35-A or trifurcate the state of Jammu and Kashmir, reported The Print.

According to the report, the speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could unfurl the national flag at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk on Independence Day has also been denied by the sources. Modi will unfurl the flag and deliver a speech at the Red Fort in the national capital, according to tradition.

However, plans are afoot to unfurl the tricolour in every district of Jammu and Kashmir, they said.

Earlier, while appealing for calm, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik had said that the State has no knowledge of any changes to the constitutional provisions.

While addressing a press conference National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah said that the Government of India should come out clean regarding the Kashmir situation.
