COVID19: Man from Anantnag dies in CD hospital Srinagar, 19 cops from the district test positive

Aggressive testing going on in the district, says District Magistrate Anantnag

Anantnag: Kashmir witnessed another death due to COVID-19 on Monday after a 75-Year-old man from Anantnag died at Chest Diseases hospital taking the overall toll to 14 in J&K.

Officials said the victim, a resident of Hillar Kokernag, had initially tested positive for coronavirus and was admitted at the CD hospital. A few days later, his repeat tests came out negative.

Anantnag has gone for, what the authorities are calling ‘aggressive testing’, after at least 19 cops of Armed Police from the district tested positive for COVID-19.

“Out of 113 samples, 19 came positive,” officials said, adding that all of them belong to 11th battalion of Armed Police.

“Samples of more than 300 cops have been taken so far for testing,” they said

The District Magistrate, Anantnag, Bashir Ahmad Dar in a media briefing has said that aggressive testing of pregnant women across the length and breadth of the district is also going on.

“As many as 600 samples of pregnant women were taken, out of which of 12 were positive, thereby enabling the administration to deal with such patients as per protocol and guidelines,” he said.

The DM also briefed the media about the students and labourers who entered the district from last week and are being put in quarantine after proper testing.

The DM also said that under-recovery phase, 28 positive cases have been found negative; he, however, appealed the general public to cooperate with district administration in dealing with the pandemic arising from COVID-19.

Regarding testing, the DM told the media that 5,000 tests were conducted so far in 11 Red Zones of the district.
