The owner has asked New Delhi to return his ‘innocent bird with dignity and respect’
The news of ‘spy’ pigeon caught and detained in Jammu, has got a new angle when a resident in Sialkot claimed the ownership. The owned and asked Delhi to return the “innocent bird” with “dignity and respect”, Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported.
The newspaper identified the owner as Habibullah, a resident of Bagga-Shakargarh village, a location barely 4 km away from the International Border (IB).
Insisting that second pigeon of the pair was still was with him, Habibullah was quoted saying the bird is a pet and cannot be “a spy or a terrorist.”
The pet owner has confirmed that in anticipation of Eid, he had fixed rings around the feet of his pigeons.
“The villager said he had specially gotten his mobile number inscribed on the rings,” the newspaper reported. It added that a protest in the village seeking the return of the pigeon to Pakistan with “full protocol and due respect”. It said the bird was a symbol of peace, love and tolerance and not an espionage tool.
Earlier reports said that the pigeon was caught by a lady in Chadwal village and handed over to the security agencies. The bird was finally handed over to the police, reports said.
