Twitter changes its avatar in support of #BlackLivesMatter as movement gains momentum

Micro blogging site Twitter has shown support to the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Twitter changed its avatar and added the hashtag in the bio of its official handle.

The movement has been gaining momentum in the US with thousands of protesters hitting the streets.

#BlackLivesMatter, a movement against systemic discrimination and marginalisation of Black Americans has reignited after the killing of George Floyd. Floyd, a Black American died after a police officer strangulated him by pushing his knee over the man’s neck.

The video was caught on camera and has created a uproar, and violent protests against police brutality.

News Channel CNN’s correspondent Omar Jimenez was arrested by police while reporting live on air, covering the protests.

Jimenez had just shown a protester being arrested when about half a dozen white police officers surrounded him. Jiminez is also a Black American.

Twitter has show support by adding the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter to its official handle. The site taken a stand against right wing extremism lately.

Twitter also fact-checked US president Donald trump and added a warning label to his tweets about claims of widespread fraud in mail-in voting – also known as postal votes.

Trump accused the company of election interference  and passed an executive order, which was strongly condemned

Twitter and other social media platforms strongly condemned the executive order.
