Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman accuses US of practising ‘violence and bullying at home and abroad’

Abbas Mousavi, spokesmen of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, in a press conference in Tehran called on the United States to stop violence against its own people, reports AlJazeera

“To the American people: the world has heard your outcry over the state of oppression. The world is standing with you And to the American officials and police: stop violence against your people and let them breathe,” said Mousavi.

Thousands of people in USA have taken to the street protesting, demanding justice for George Floyd and an end to police brutality against blacks in America.

Floyd died after a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, pressed his knee on the handcuffed Black man’s neck for nearly nine minutes, until he stopped breathing.

The movement against systemic discrimination and marginalisation of Black Americans has reignited after the killing of Floyd.

“We deeply regret to see the American people, who peacefully seek respect and no more violence, being suppressed indiscriminately and met with the utmost violence,” Mousavi told reporters in English.

The US had condemned the Iranian government in November after deadly street violence broke out in the country during protests triggered by a surprise petrol price hike.

230 people were killed and thousands injured in these protests, as reported by a senior Iranian legislator. However, numbers given by Amnesty were much higher which Iranian officials have denied, calling them lies.
