Earthquake with epicentre near Srinagar strikes Jammu and Kashmir, no damage reported

Srinagar: An earthquake of 3.9 magnitude on the Richter Scale struck Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning at around 8:16 am, triggering panic among the local residents.

National Center for Seismology confirmed that the epicentre of the earthquake was 15 kilometres North-Northeast of Srinagar at a depth of 10 km.

“The epicentre of the earthquake was located 14 Kilometres north of Srinagar city. The co-ordinates of the earthquake are latitude 34.21 degrees north and longitude 74.85 degrees east.

“There is no report of any casualty or damage to property”, the official said.

Earthquakes have caused massive damage in Kashmir in the past because the Valley is located in a highly sensitive seismological region.
