Two more militants killed at Shopian gunfight site taking the toll to five, operation over

Shopian: Two more militants were killed in a gunfight that broke between militants and armed forces in Sugoo, Hendhama village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday, taking the toll of slain militants to five.

An official said, that five militants have been killed in the gunfight and the operation has ended in the area.

Earlier, an official said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

The official said, “the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter. Five militants were killed in the gunfight. The operation has now ended.”

Meanwhile, authorities have suspended mobile internet services in the district.

Pertinently, nine militants including top Hizb commanders were killed in two separate gunfights at Reban and Pinjura villages of the district on June 6 and 7.
