Rajnath Singh leaves for Russia, likely to raise LAC issue

India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday left for a 3-day visit to Russia to attend a grand military parade in Moscow that marks the 75th anniversary of Soviet Russia’s victory over Germany in Second World War.

It is the first time in four months that a minister has travelled abroad as the international travels were banned due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Leaving for Moscow on a three day visit. The visit to Russia will give me an opportunity to hold talks on ways to further deepen the India-Russia defence and strategic partnership. I shall also be attending the 75th Victory Day Parade in Moscow,” Singh tweeted before leaving for Moscow.

Quoting official sources, NDTV reported that a tri-service 75-member Indian military contingent has already reached Moscow to participate in the parade.

The Indian team will participate in the parade alongside armed forces personnel from at least 11 countries, including China.

This visit comes in the midst of India-China standoff after the 20 Indian Army personnels were killed by the Chinese Army in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley.

Citing sources, India Today reported that Rajnath Singh is likely to raise the China Issue with the Russian Counterpart.

The Victory Parade was scheduled for 9th May but got postponed to June due to the coronavirus pandemic.
