COVID: Highest single day spike of 14,933, India tally crosses 4.4 lakh, over 10,000 recoveries in 24 hrs

As per the latest health ministry update, 14,933 fresh infections were reported in the last 24 hours throughout India taking the toll cases to 4,40,215 and the death toll to 14,011 as 312 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.

The total number of people testing positive in Maharashtra is 1,35,796 while as the national capital Delhi has become the second worst hit state as it has overtaken Tamil Nadu with the toll tally of 62,655 cases.

As of now, the government is trying to focus on bringing a decrease in the fatality rate.

Globally, the infections have reached the 9 million mark with the death tally standing at 4.6 lakh.

Maharashtra, with 1,35,796 cases, remains the worst affected state, followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu, both with over 60,000 cases.

The COVID-19 testing infrastructure is being ramped up, the government said. The number of government labs for covid testing has been increased to 723 and private labs has been increased to 262. As of June 22, over 71 lakh samples were tested for coronavirus.
