COVID-19: JK death toll rises to 104 as 2 more die at CD hospital

Srinagar: Two more persons have passed away due to the virus, pushing the death toll in J&K to 104. One of them is identified as a 75 year old from Sopore, and another who succumbed to the virus on Wednesday morning is an 80 year-old man hailing from Bibijhara area in the district Anantnag.

Both the patients died at CD Hospital and suffered from Pneumonia apart from other respiratory ailments as per Dr Saleem Tak, Medical Superintendent at CD hospital.

Before these two deaths, a 50 year old woman hailing from Eidgah breathed her last at SKIMS after getting infected with the virus.

As per Dr G H Yatoo, Nodal officer for Covid-19 at SKIMS, she was admitted to SKIMS on June 19.

Across India, 18,653 number of people tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, with the total number of positive cases tallying to 5,85,493 according to the data provided by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Wednesday.

There are 2,20,114 active cases in the country as of now and 3,47,979 patients have recovered from the virus.

In the last 24 hours, 507 people have died due to the virus taking the death toll to 17,400.

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst affected state with 1,74,761 cases and 7855 deaths. It is followed by Tamil Nadu with 90,167 cases and 1,201 deaths.

The Indian Council of Medical Research, in a statement, said that 86,26,585 samples have been tested up to June 30 of which 2,17,931 samples were tested in Tuesday.
