Police claims baseless, detention illegal, says family of detained Jamaat leader
Srinagar: Refuting the claims that former spokesperson of banned Jama’at-e-Islami J&K Advocate Zahid Ali, is involved in illegal activities, the family members of Ali said that charges levelled against him are baseless.
Advocate Zahid Ali’s family said that allegations against the detainee are strongly refuted as he has no connection even remotely with any unlawful or illegal activity.
“The fresh detention are the replica of the same false allegations as in earlier two detention orders, both of them were quashed by the High Court,” Advocate Zahid Ali’s family said.
The family added that there is no fresh allegation against him after his release in April, 2020, but under “vague, remote and baseless allegations” he has been detained a third time, by the orders of SSP Pulwama under the warrant signed by District Magistrate Pulwama.
The family termed the detention as “illegal and unconstitutional” and said it has decided to challenge the detention order in the High Court.
According to the family, Ali was detained from his home on June 30, 2020 at about 10:00 am by police station Kakapora without assigning any reasons to them.
“He was kept under custody in the said police station illegally up to 3rd July, 2020,” the family said, adding, he was later shifted to Central Jail, Srinagar under PSA and detained there.
On April 11, Ali was released on the orders of the High Court from Central Jail, Kotbhalwal Jammu after his detention was quashed.
Earlier today, Authorities booked Advocate Zahid Ali under Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted him to Central Jail Srinagar.
He was the Political Bureau Head and Chief Spokesperson of banned Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir.
Police in its dossier mentioned that “Ali provoked the general public and released pro-independence/anti-India slogans, instigated people for stone pelting upon security forces and police deployment, besides close associate of Nonagenarian Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani and former chief of JeI Ghulam Mohammad Bhat”.
Ali, was earlier detained on March 22, 2019, a week before when Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) banned the outfit for “involving in subversive and militant related activities” in J&K.
He was later released on April 11, 2020 after his multiple PSAs were quashed by court.
