Srinagar: A month after the killing of a local Sarpanch Ajay Pandita in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, around 465  people under the banner of CrowdKash, a crowd funding platform, have come together to raise funds for the bereaved family.

Bollywood actor Anupam Kher, cricketer Suresh Raina  andfilm maker Ashoke Pandit, are among the 465 others who have endorsed and contributed to the campaign.

They said it was the first such killing of a minority community member in 16 years and an attempt to create fear psychosis among the community members.

Film maker Ashoke Pandit said that no amount of money can bring back a lost life but the members have assembled together to help the family in whatever means possible. Reports said that the amount raised for the family would directly be transferred into the deceased’s’ wife.

On June 8, 2020, a local Sarpanch at Lukbawan village of Larkipora Anantnag was shot dead by unidentified men.

The deceased identified as Ajay Pandita, alias Bharti, was reportedly attacked in his orchard at his ancestral village. Soon after the incident, Ajay was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Reports said that a large number of people thronged to residence of Pandita to console his family.

A day after the killing, Pandita’s body was carried to Jammu by his family and Muslim neighbours for the last rites. The last rites were held at Shakti Nagar crematorium in Jammu.
