Woman killed, another injured in cross LoC firing in Rajouri

Srinagar: An elderly woman was killed and another was injured on Wednesday after the armies of India and Pakistan exchanged gunfire along Line of Control in Poonch district.

An Army officer said that there was “unprovoked small arms firing and shelling along the LoC in Balakote and Mendhar sectors at about 0200 hours. The Indian Army retaliated befittingly and the firing stopped at about 0245 hours.”

In the incident, a woman identified as Rashim Bi (65) wife of Mohammad Azam of Sagra, at present Lanjoite Balakote was killed and another Hakam Bi (60) Wife Of Moghammad Sahrif of Lanjoite, was injured.

Soon after the incident, a police party visited the shelling hit house and shifted the injured woman to PHC Dhargloon wherefrom she was later referred to Government Medical College Rajouri.

BMO Mendhar Dr Parvaiz Khan said that one woman died and another was critically injured.
