Srinagar: To lay the foundation, for the construction of the temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya on August 3 or 5, the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerath Kshetra Trust has invited the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, as both the dates have considered auspicious by the trust.
A report published by a Delhi based news organisation NDTV, during a trust’s first formal meeting in Ayodhya on Saturday, the members deliberated upon a possible date for the beginning of temple construction, already delayed because of the COVID outbreak.
PM Modi had announced the formation of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust on February 5, the spokesman of the trust said.
Mahant Kamal Nayan Das, the spokesman of the Trust’s president Nritya Gopal Das has said that trust has suggested two auspicious dates- August 3 and 4, for the prime minister’s visit based on calculations of movements of stars and planets.
Earlier, a decision to delay the construction was taken after 20 Indian troops were killed by the Chinese Army in the Galwan Valley.
The Ayodhya land dispute is one of India’s longest running dispute which continued for decades.
On 6 December 1992, a large group of Hindu extremists belonging to the Vishva Hindu Parishad and allied organisations demolished the Babri mosque, triggering violent clashes all over the Indian subcontinent, killing around 2,000 people. Hindu extremist groups claim that the site belongs to them.
Last year in November, the Supreme Court of India had directed the Central government to hand over the disputed site at Ayodhya for the construction of a temple and set up a trust for the same.
The apex court had further directed the government to give a ‘suitable land measuring five acres’ to the Sunni Waqf Board at a different location.
