Srinagar: In the latest update about the novel coronavirus, the Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE), said that a total number of global COVID cases has surpassed the 15.1 million mark, while the deaths have increased to over 6,21,800.
The University’s latest update suggests that a total number of cases stood at 15,166,401, while the fatalities rose to 6,21,890.
According to the CSSE, US has the world’s highest number of infections and fatalities at 39,67,917 and 1,43,147, and Brazil comes in second place with 22,27,514 infections and 82,771 deaths so far.
According to the figures showed by CSSE in terms of cases, India ranks third 11,93,078, and is followed by Russia that has 787,890 cases.
Iran has 2,81,413 cases, Pakistan 2,67,428, Saudi Arabia 2,58,156, and Qatar has 1,07,871 cases.
On July 19, the number of new COVID cases rose by almost 2,60,000 in 24 hours – the largest single-day increase since the pandemic began, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said.
According to the world’s biggest health organisation, this is the first time the number of new daily infections has surpassed a quarter of a million.
The biggest increases were in the US, Brazil, India and South Africa.
