JK witnesses 12 more COVID deaths, toll mounts to 278

Srinagar: With fresh 12 deaths including a minor’s casualty, Jammu and Kashmir have reported 12 more deaths attributed to COVID. The fatality count due to the virus has risen to 278, with 20 in Jammu division and 258 in Kashmir.

Official sources said that five deaths occurred at SKIMS Soura, five at SMHS hospital including a BSF trooper posted in Baramulla, while one each was reported at CD hospital and SKIMS in Srinagar.

They said that the child, a resident of Qazipora Bandipora, died at SKIMS Soura, a week after he tested positive for COVID.

A 28-year-old woman from Kulgam district was admitted to SKIMS Bemina on July 14 and had various underlying ailments including diabetes mellitus. “The woman was shifted to ICU on July 20 and today at 9:15 am, however, died in the afternoon after developing a sudden cardiac arrest,” officials said.

The other casualties include a fifty-year-old bank manager, from Batamaloo who died at SKIMS Soura, a 45-year-old from Shahgund village of Bandipora, presently at Zoonimar, who was declared brought dead on arrival by the doctors at CD hospital, his age-mate male from Palpora who passed away at SMHS hospital, a 70-year-old male from Ganderbal, a 54-year-old man from Sonawar Srinagar, 58-year-old from Rajbagh Srinagar, a 45-year-old from Khanyar Srinagar who was suffering from diabetes, hypertension and bilateral pneumonia, a male patient from Umarhair Srinagar who died at SKIMS Soura and a 56-year-old woman from Pulwama.

With these deaths, 258 people in Kashmir and 20 in Jammu have died so far due to the deadly virus.

Srinagar district with 74 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla (58), Kulgam (26), 19 each in Shopian  and Anantnag, Budgam (20), fifteen each in Pulwama and Kupwara, Jammu(12),  Bandipora (7), Ganderbal (5), two each in Rajouri and Doda and one each in Poonch, Udhampur, and Kathua.

The J&K administration on Wednesday informed that 453 COVID positive cases, 101 from Jammu division and 352 from Kashmir have been reported taking the overall toll to 15711.

Moreover, 152 more COVID patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 37 from Jammu Division and 115 from the Kashmir.

In the wake of spurt in COVID related cases and deaths, the J&K administration on Wednesday announced complete lockdown in areas of Kashmir zone which have been categorized as red zones due to spike in the number of coronavirus cases.
