In 24 hours, India records 45,720 COVID infections, over 1,100 deaths

India on Wednesday reported a total of 45,720 fresh COVID infections taking the total caseload in the country to 12,38,635.

The death toll due to the disease rose to 29,861 after 1,129 fatalities were reported in last 24 hours, making India the seventh largest contributor to the total global deaths (6,23,491), the John Hopkins University data revealed.

The total number of active cases in the country now stands at 4,26,167 while the recovered cases in the country have crossed 7 lakh mark according to the data provided by India’s Union Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, a Chinese-made vaccine against the coronavirus has entered the final stage of testing in Brazil, where volunteers received the first doses. The vaccine, developed by private Chinese pharmaceutical firm Sinovac Biotech, became the third in the world to enter Phase 3 clinical trials, or large-scale testing on humans – the last step before regulatory approval, the LiveMint reported.

Brazil is the second worst COVID hit country in the world with 2,227,514 infections preceded by United States of America with 39,70,908 COVID infections.

India continues be at the third spot of the global index with 12,38,798 COVID infections.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst hit COVID state with over 3 lakh infections reported so far followed by Tamil Nadu (1,86,492), Delhi (1,26,323), Karnataka (75,833)and Uttar Pradesh (55,588).
