Kashmir reports four more COVID deaths, tally mounts to 302

Srinagar: Kashmir on Saturday reported four more COVID deaths, taking the number of people succumbing to the virus to 302 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Among the fresh casualties, three were from Srinagar- the worst-hit district, and another victim belonged to Baramulla district of north Kashmir.

A Srinagar resident admitted on July 20 tested positive for the virus and subsequently died at SKIMS Soura this morning.  Another patient from Rawalpora Srinagar, also died at the tertiary care hospital at around 7:00 am.

Two hours later, a 48-year-old woman from Baramulla passed away at the hospital, official sources said, adding that she was admitted on July 22 and diagnosed as a case of pneumonia and ARDS besides hypothyroidism.

A recent death due to the deadly virus was reported from Safa Kadal area of Srinagar. Sources added that a woman patient died at SMHS hospital. The deceased patient was admitted on July 21 and was suffering from pneumonia and hypertension.

Until now, 280 deaths have been reported in Kashmir and 22 in Jammu division.

So far, the erstwhile state has reported 16,429 positive cases, 302 deaths and 8,709 people have recovered from the novel coronavirus.

In India, fresh 48,916 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of positive cases to 13,36,861.

The country also witnessed 757 virus-related deaths during the period, according to the data released by the Health Ministry.

With 31,358 deaths, the fatalities in India is now the sixth-biggest in the world; the country is behind the US, Brazil, Britain, Mexico and Italy.
