Srinagar: Police on Friday detained Aaqib Ahmed Malik, a student of the Kashmir University, in a case registered against him in 2018.

Police sources said that the student had been summoned for questioning in a case related to unlawful activities registered in 2018. The student was later detained.

Aaqib is a resident of Aglar Pinjora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. He was a student of law and is currently pursuing masters in Bio Chemistry.

“A case vide number 68/2018 under section 13 of Unlawful Activities Act stands registered at Police Station Nigeen. The role of the student has been established and subsequently he has been detained,” an official told news agency KNT.

“I stood up against corruption and backdoor entries in University and that didn’t go well with University authorities. Instead of supporting me they started harassing me,” Aaqib had shared on social media.

“I was dragged out of my hostel and my room was locked by University officials. They didn’t even allow access to my clothes or books, and they also stopped my mess and food which impacted me mentally, my studies were impacted too. They also harassed my family and students who stood up for me. My father was summoned twice in police station Shopian. Now even in this pandemic I am summoned by police and I don’t even know the reason,” he wrote.
