Srinagar: The family and relatives of a 48-year-old man from Tral area of south Kashmir, have filed a missing report after their he did not return home for a week.

The man identified as Abdul Hamid Chopan, a resident of Larow village of Tral, left his home on July 19 and has returned home despite family’s desperate search for him “since the last eight days”.

According to the family members, a missing report has been lodged in this regard at police station Tral and police have also begun search for the missing person.

Talking to reporters, the missing person’s son Omar Chopan, an undergraduate student at Degree College Tral, said that his father left home on July 16, telling his family that he will go to irrigate his land.

However, when the family tried to call him later, his phone was continuously switched off. The family then approached the concerned police station in Tral and registered the missing report on July 20.

Abdul Hamid Chopan is the father of a slain Hizbul Mujhadeen militant Adil Chopan, who was killed in a gunfight at Gulshanpora Gujjarbasti area of Tral on 20 November 2017.

Adil had managed to escape from a gunfight site in May 2017 when top militant commander Sabzar Ahmed Bhat and his close aide Faizan Ahmed were killed at Saimoh village of the town, after people rushed to help him escape. The videos and photographs of people flocking around him after the gunfight had gone viral.

Pertinently, Maqbool Chopan’s brother-in-law of Abdul Hamid Chopan was also killed by the armed forces in Tral last month with his associate. He was the commander of Jaish-e-Muhammad.
