With more than 48k fresh infections, India’s COVID tally mounts to 15 lakh

Srinagar: With 48,513 fresh COVID cases recorded in a day, India’s tally on Wednesday mounted to of 15 lakh, two days after it crossed the 14-lakh mark.

According to the Union health ministry data, the total coronavirus cases climbed to 15,31,669, while the country’s death toll due to the disease rose to 34,193 with 768 deaths being reported in a 24-hour span.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Gujarat have reported the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.

Yet, India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 64.5 percent.

Globally, there have been over 1.68 Crore confirmed cases of the deadly virus and more than 6.58 lakh people have died so far.

Pertinently, today is the 128th day since India implemented a nationwide lockdown, to help curb the novel coronavirus pandemic.
