With over 50k fresh COVID infections, tally in India crosses 17 lakh mark

Srinagar: With over fifty-thousand new COVID cases, the total cases in India have crossed the 17-lakh mark, with a surge in infections from the southern states.

According to the data recorded by India’s Health Ministry, there are 5,67,730 active cases in India with over 10 lakh recoveries. So far, over 37,000 people have succumbed to the deadly virus.

Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a meteoric rise in the numbers in less than a fortnight as the state has now climbed to the third spot preceded by Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu in the country.

In just the last 13 days, Andhra Pradesh registered a staggering 96,485 cases with 39,912 of these being recorded only since past four days.

In Delhi, the government has reduced the number of containment zones from 715 to 496 following an extensive assessment of the sealed areas in the last two days.

In India, the total number of cases stand at 17,50,724 including 5,67,730 active cases, recoveries are at 11,45,630 and 37,364 deaths.
