Pulwama: Dumping of hundreds of sheep hides causes unbearable stench

Pulwama: Hundreds of sheep hides of sacrificial animals have been dumped on the banks of Romushi Nallah near Zagigam in Pulwama.

Locals from Rahmoo in Pulwama have complained that people from different villages come and dump truckloads of waste and garbage besides the river, with authorities not taking any action against the practice.

The site has become a breeding ground for dogs thereby posing threat to the the residents, posing environmental hazards, and contributing to diseases and water pollution.

The soaring temperatures have resulted in unbearable stench across the length and breadth of diversion on Romushi Nallah.

“It has became a nuisance for the people of Rahmoo and Zagigam,” locals told Free Press Kashmir.

“It is not for the first time this is happening. Since the past few years truckloads of garbage and trash have been dumped near this once-pristine water body,” locals said.

We request the district administration of Pulwama to look into this matter seriously, the locals said.
