JK reports 559 fresh COVID cases, death toll mounts to 426

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Wednesday informed that 559 new COVID infections were reported in the erstwhile state in last 24 hours, thus taking the total number of cases in JK to 22,955.

The administration said that 9 COVID deaths were also reported- 1 from Jammu division and 8 from Kashmir.

Moreover, 388 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals- 91 from Jammu and 297 from Kashmir.

According to the daily media bulletin, out of 22,955 positive cases, 7,285 are Active Positive, 15,244 have recovered and 426 have died – 31 in Jammu and 395 in Kashmir.

The bulletin further said that out of 6,79,415 test results available, 6,56,460 samples have been tested as negative till August 05, 2020.

Additionally, till date, 3,79,311 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for observation which included 43,206 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 7,285 in isolation and 43,604 under home surveillance.

Besides, 2,84,790 persons have completed their surveillance period.

The administration has also evacuated about 2,86,301 JK residents, stranded in parts of India due to COVID lockdown, via Lakhanpur and through special trains and buses till date amid strict observance of all necessary guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.

As per the official data received in this regard, the administration has received 105 special trains at Jammu and Udhampur railway stations from different states and UTs, so far, with about 87,640 passengers while about 1,98,661 persons from other states and UTs including 904 from abroad have been evacuated by the government through Lakhanpur till date.
