Senior Doctor loses life to COVID battle, ‘we salute his martyrdom’, says DAK

Srinagar: Senior Doctor Mohammad Ashraf Mir from Konibal Pampore area of Pulwama district, who was admitted at SKIMS on 25 July died on Sunday. The deceased doctor breathed his last at around 6:15 in the morning while battling with the deadly coronavirus.

Dr Ashraf’s death has been widely mourned and some of his colleagues and counterparts have described his death as a great loss to society.

“Dr Ashraf was a frontline COVID warrior who contracted the virus while on duty and was shifted to Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) when he developed complications about 2 weeks back,” said president of Doctors Association of Kashmir Suhail Ahmed Naik.

Accoridng to Naik, Dr Ashraf was later admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as he could not maintain Oxygen saturation due to bilateral pneumonia and lost the battle of life early morning today.

DAK said that Dr Ashraf is a true “martyr” as he “without caring for consequence”s of contracting COVID served his patients.

“DAK salutes martyrdom of Dr Ashraf, who was presently serving as Senior Medical Officer at District Hospital Pulwama, and expresses the deepest condolence with the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul,” Naik said.

The medical body said that entire medical fraternity is saddened with the loss of the deceased doctor and is in the shoulder to shoulder with his family and relatives in this hour of grief.

Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has expressed deep shock and grief over the demise of the senior doctor.

In a statement, Bukhari described Dr Ashraf as a frontline warrior who lost his life while trying to save precious human lives from the deadly Coronavirus.

“His contribution in the field of medicine especially in his home district Pulwama will be remembered by one and all,” Bukhari added.

Bukhari said the medics and paramedics besides all those employees who are on the front line in the battle against COVID are the real heroes who without bothering for their own lives serve humanity.

On Saturday, the Jammu and Kashmir administration informed that 463 new positive cases of novel Coronavirus were detected in JK, thus taking the total number of infections to 24,390.

The erstwhile state also reported 10 fresh COVID deaths. Moreover, 449 more COVID patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 181 from Jammu and 268 from Kashmir.

According to the daily bulletin, out of 24390 positive cases, 7264 are Active Positive, 16667 have recovered and 459 have died- 34 in Jammu and 425 in Kashmir division.

The bulletin further said that out of 706780 test results available, 682390 samples have been tested as negative till August 08, 2020.
