Second gunfight in less than 24 hours

Pulwama: Hours after four militants were killed in Shopian, a gunfight has broken out between militants and armed forces in Zadoora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Officials said that a joint team of Army (50 RR), 182 and 183 CRPF and SOG launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the Newa area of Pulwama.

“Encounter has started at Zadoora area of #Pulwama. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” the Jammu and Kashmir police has tweeted about the incident.

A police official said that “as the joint teams of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter”.

Two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area and mobile Internet has reportedly been shut down in the area.

Pertinently this is second gunfight in South in less than 24 hours as four militants were killed and one was “caught alive” in a gunfight earlier in Shopian.
