Srinagar: A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against a Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) worker for allegedly trying to usurp a portion of a local graveyard in Kijpara, Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Eyewitnesses told Free Press Kashmir that a local BJP worker from Kangan identified as Ghulam Qadir along with his “security guards” arrived at Kijpara village with an excavator and began making a pathway in middle of the local graveyard.

Upon seeing this, the locals say they resented the move, and he told them ‘not to indulge in the matter’ forcing them to protest.

A local resident and former Sarpanch of the village Shabir Ahmed, speaking to Free Press Kashmir, said that the BJP worker, a resident of Nunnar Ganderbal, had purchased a portion of land in Kijpara near the graveyard.

However, while creating a pathway using an excavator, he usurped a portion of the local graveyard also.
