Rockfall incident at Kolahoi galcier, 2 mountaineers injured

Srinagar: Two mountaineers were injured on Monday in a rockfall incident at Kolahoi glacier in Pahalgam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Reports said that incident occurred at Kolahoi glacier camp when two mountaineers who were part of a group belonging to Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), came under a landslide involving the fall of rocks.

The incident resulted in injuries to two of the mountaineers. One among them is said to be a male and another a woman mountaineer.

The four member group is headed by a Srinagar based guide, Nawab Moazzam Khan.

Reports said that the woman mountaineer has received injuries on both of her wrists and another mountaineer has suffered an arm injury.

As per reports, IMF is trying to rescue the mountaineers through chopper service; however, no official confirmation was received about the chopper service yet.

The service, as per the reports, charges around 6 lacs for the rescue operation.

In this regard, Station House Officer (SHO) Pahalgam told Free Press Kashmir that police has received no such information yet.

Earlier on September 8, 2018, two trekkers from Jammu and Kashmir, Naveed Jeelani and Adil Shah died, and one was injured after a rock avalanche descended following inclement weather at the Kolahoi Glacier.
