Kashmiri Pandit body begins ‘fast-unto-death’ against ‘bureaucratic harassment’

Srinagar: Kashmiri Pandit Sangarash Samiti (KPSS) on Sunday accused the Disaster Management Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRR&R) Department of Jammu and Kashmir, of “punishing non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits, for staying back in Kashmir valley”.

The body has now decided to start “Fast-Unto-Death” strike from September 20, 2020, against Relief department for “persecution and bureaucratic harassment” against non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits at Ganesh Mandir, Ganpatyaar, Habba Kadal, Srinagar.

In a statement, the KPSS spokesperson said that since the abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A, non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits are facing “harassment and isolation at the hands of Relief Department.”

Despite multiple directions from Hon’ble High Court and recommendations from the government of India through the Ministry of Home Affairs, Relief Department is playing with the life and security of the non-migrant Pandits, the statement said.

Since June 2020, hundreds of communications stand submitted to all concerned authorities in JK and GoI, in particular, about the “vicious and morally corrupt” staff of Relief department.

“Situations are created like either they sabotage the whole process of Jobs and Rehabilitation or we must negotiate under the table deal with the officials of the Relief department to get the directions of the High Court and recommendations of the Ministry of Home Affairs implemented on the ground zero,” the statement read.

Earlier on August 27, 2020, a delegation of KPSS also met Lieutenant Governor, of JK at Raj Bhawan, Srinagar and submitted a detailed memorandum and apprised him about the “conspiracy hatched by Relief department against the non-migrants.”

Later on, the delegation was assured that necessary steps will be taken on priority to sort out the issue which is related to the survival and existence of 808 families living in Kashmir. But till date, no action stands taken on the issues.

As such, for the survival of 808 families, the KPSS headed by its president Sanjay K Tickoo, has decided to start “Fast-Unto-Death” from today (20,09, 2020), against Relief department for “persecution and bureaucratic harassment” against non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits at Ganesh Mandir, Ganpatyaar, Habba Kadal, Srinagar.

Among the demands that KPSS has, include vigilance inquiry against the officials of the Relief department for “deliberately stalling and sabotaging relief and rehabilitation of non-migrant Pandits and misusing their official positions to “harm Kashmiri Pandits.

The Implementation of Hon’ble High Court directions and recommendations of the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding Jobs to the unemployed educated Kashmiri Pandit youths.

The DMRR&R deliberately delayed the process by more than four years as such give one time age relaxation to all the over-age candidates’ with effect from 31, 05, 2016 (date of the judgment passed by Hon’ble High Court in OWP 1986/2013 titled Kashmiri Pandit Sangarash Samiti and others Vs GoI.

Easy and stress-free process of providing Bonafide Certificates to all the aspirants as per SRO 425 dated 10, 10, 2017. Monthly Financial Aid to 808 families living in Kashmir valley, providing accommodation to all deserving Pandit families as per the recommendations of the Ministry of Home Affairs, India.

The body has also demanded the extension of benefits of Migrant Welfare Fund to the families.
