Militant killed, armed forces personnel injured during ongoing military operation in Chrar-e-Sharief, says police

Srinagar: A militant has been killed during an ongoing military operation against militants in Chrar-e-Sharief area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

Official sources said that a militant has been killed during an ongoing military operation; however, the identity of the slain militant has not been ascertained yet.

“The operation was halted due to darkness yesterday, as the first light of this morning struck, the operation was again resumed,” the official sources added.

On Monday evening, during an initial exchange of firing one armed forces personnel identified as Sepoy Naveen Kumar of A coy 53 RR, sustained splinter injury, who was subsequently shifted to 92 Base hospital for specialised treatment.

The operation began after a joint team of Army’s 53RR and 181 battalion of CRPF and Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir police, launched an operation in Nowhar Mohalla of Chrar-e-Sharief following inputs about the presence of militants.

As per official sources, the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. “The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off a fight between the militants and armed forces personnel.”
