Police constable from Gurgaon booked for raping woman, threatening her

Gurgaon: A police constable from Gurgaon city of Haryana has been booked after a 36-year-old woman who lives in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar West alleged that he had been raping her several times over the past three years.

Quoting the complainant, a report by Times of India, said that she met Sudhir, who is posted as a police constable in Delhi, for the first time in 2017, and they became friends. Later, he asked her to meet him at a hotel in Sector 39, where he allegedly raped her.

“Since then, he has raped me several times over the past three years. I kept quiet about my ordeal as he threatened to kill me if I ever disclosed the matter to anyone,” the woman who works with a private bank told police in a statement.

After being fed up with the “recurrent episodes of harassment”, she finally approached Delhi Police and a zero FIR was registered in Dwarka last month.

The case was then transferred to Gurugram police and an FIR was registered at Sector 40 police station earlier this week under IPC sections 376 (police officer committing rape and 503 (criminal intimidation).

“We have registered a case as per the woman’s complaint. We have asked her to come and record a statement with us. Once that process has been completed, we will further investigate the matter,” the SHO of the police station said in the report.

This comes at a time when candle marches are being organised in several states of the country seeking justice for the young woman who was gang-raped and then brutally murdered by four upper-caste Hindu men in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh state.

In August this year, Haryana inspector general of police Hemant Kalsan was also booked and arrested for allegedly beating two women.
