Srinagar: Protests rock Rawalpora as army ‘assaults civilians’, one sustains cervical injury

Srinagar: Massive protests rocked Rawalpora area of Srinagar after soldiers deployed on the road allegedly assaulted two civilians youth ‘without any reason’.

Locals of the area have now blocked the road at main chowk Rawalpora in protest against the incident.

Eyewitnesses said that that two civilian youth identified as Shahid Ahad Bhat son of Abdul Ahad and Aqib Ashraf Dar son of Muhammad Ashraf Dar, both residents of Rawalpora, were beaten by the soldiers deployed near the Rawalpora bridge.

“We are protesting against the assault of our boys. We want action against the soldiers who beat up our children mercilessly,” the protesting locals said.

They said while Aqib has sustained injury in his leg and foot, Shahid has cervical injury. “Both have been shifted to the hospital for treatment,” they said.

Defence spokesman in Srinagar Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that they are ascertaining the details of the incident.
