Militant hideout busted in Awantipora, says police ‘arms, ammunition recovered’

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said that it busted a militant hideout in south Kashmir’s Awantipora area and a huge cache of explosive material and ammunition was recovered from the hideout.

In a statement, Police said that based on credible input regarding presence of militants affiliated with Lashkar- e-Taiba outfit in the nursery area of the village Kawani Awantipora near river Jehlum bank, Awantipora Police with 55 RR and 185 BN CRPF launched a search operation on Friday morning in which a hideout of LeT was busted and destroyed.

Mentioning details of the hideout, police said there was “opening 2.5 ft X 2.5 ft (covered by iron lid), room 1st 7 ft X 10 ft (height 08 ft), room 2nd 7ft X 7ft (height 08 ft) and toilet point 3 ft X 4ft (height 08 ft)”.

Incriminating material and a huge cache of explosive material and ammunition was recovered from the busted hideout. The ammunition includes “Pistol=01 No, Pistol Magazine=01No’s, Ammunition AK47= 2091 No’s, Grenades  =03 No’s.” Police said that the hideout was completely destroyed later.

All the material has been taken into Police custody for investigation purpose and a case FIR number 147/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora, Police added.
