Rice Scam: Police arrest Headmaster ‘evading arrest from last month’

Sumbal: A Government School Headmaster, one of the accused in a rice scandal who was “evading” arrest, has been arrested by police in Sumbal area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Pertinently, 61 bags of rice meant for mid-day meals at Middle School Sumbal were recovered from a Tata-Mobile vehicle by Sumbal police on the premises of Middle School.

The rice meant for mid-day meals “was transferred from school illegally and the attempt was thwarted by police”.

Police had arrested three accused while the school headmaster was evading arrest since then.

A police official said that the headmaster who was “evading arrest” has been arrested.

“A case stands already registered and the investigation is underway,” he said.

Besides the Headmaster Syed Sajad, a resident of Inderkoot Sumbal, the other three accused include Muhammad Yousuf Hajam, Firdous Mir and Jafar Hajam.
