‘Stopped’ from visiting Rambiara Nallah, Mehbooba says ‘outsiders extract sand through illegal tenders with Admin’s help’

Srinagar: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti was on Saturday afternoon “barred” from visiting Rambiara nalla in Shopian, where, according to her, sand extraction through illegal tenders has been outsourced to outsiders.

Mehbooba in her tweet said that she was stopped from visiting the place where “sand extraction through illegal tenders has been outsourced to outsiders”.

She said “outsiders from Punjab and Haryana with the help of local admin are outsourcing the sand through illegal tenders from the nallah and locals are not being allowed to go there. “Those whose livelihood was dependent on this are jobless now,” Mehbooba said while interacting with media reporters in Pulwama. “Same is the case with people in Jammu.”

She said that sand and boulders that the outsiders extract from the nallas is being sold in double and  triple rates.

“I was stopped from visiting Rambiara Nalla today by local admin. This is where sand extraction through illegal tenders has been outsourced to outsiders & locals are barred from the area. Our land & resources are being plundered by GOI that has nothing but contempt for us,” Mehbooba tweeted.
