DDC Polls: 5.25% votes polled till 9 am across JK

Srinagar: The first phase of District Development Council elections 2020 recorded voter percentage of 5.25 % till 9 am across different constituencies spread over all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The elections are being held for the first time in JK to electing representatives for the District Development Councils.

As per the figures given by the office of State Election Commissioner, in Kashmir Division, Kupwara has recorded a voting percentage of 2.34%, Bandipora 3.73%, Baramulla 1.51%, Ganderbal 2.56%, Srinagar 9.94%, Budgam 3.16%, Pulwama 0.64 %, Shopian 7.56%, Kulgam 5.13% and Anantnag 2.63% till 9.00 am.

Similarly, in Jammu division Kishtwar has recorded voting percentage of 0.05%, Doda 7.14%, Ramban 8.09%, Reasi  9.32%, Udhampur 5.62 %, Kathua 2.40%, Samba 14.55%, Jammu 10.14 %, Rajouri 9.80% and Poonch 5.25% till 9 am.

Regrading the DDC elections, the State Election Commissioner K K Sharma said that there are total 280 constituencies in JK (14 in each district) out of which voting will be conducted in 43 constituencies from 7 am to 2 pm in phase I.

He said that a total of 296 candidates are in the electoral fray including 207 male and 89 female candidates for DDC elections in Phase I.

In view of the COVID outbreak, the SEC also urged the people to follow the guideline issued by the Election Commission besides put their face masks and maintain the social distance during polling. He also said that sanitizers, thermal scanner and face masks shall also be provided to the voters, in case they forget to carry their own face masks/ sanitizers.

Meanwhile, Internet services in south Kashmir’s Pulwama and Shopian have been snapped in view of the polls.
