LeT militant associate arrested in south Kashmir’s Kulgam, says police

Srinagar: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a militant associate in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district and recovered explosive substances from his possession.

In a statement, police said: “On a specific information Kulgam Police and 34 RR has arrested one militant associate of proscribed outfit Lashker-e-Taiba who is  involved in providing shelter, logistics and other support to militants which includes transporting of Arms/Ammunition and explosive material of the militants in district Kulgam.”

The arrested militant associate has been identified as, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Late Mohd Yousf Bhat, a resident of Hatipora Kulgam.

Police said they recovered incriminating material including “02 No’s of AK 47 magazines, 28 rounds of AK 47 rifle, pistol 01 No, pistol magazine 01 No, Chinese grenade 01 No, sling 01 and German Compass 01 No of proscribed outfit LeT has been recovered from him.”

In this connection, a case FIR No 154/2020 stands registered against the said militant associate in Police Station Yaripora under relevant sections of law and further investigation regarding the incident is in progress.
