Heavy snowfall: Nine-month pregnant woman walks 5 kilometers to reach health facility in Bandipora

Bandipora: Amid heavy snowfall and with roads still impassable in Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, a nine month pregnant woman was forced on Wednesday to walk around 5 kilometers to reach the health facility.

A resident of Kosumbagh Hakabra Hajin area, she walked by foot from Hakabara to Safapora which is still clogged with snow, Fayaz Ahmad, husband of the pregnant woman told a local news agency GNS.

“In such a condition, she walked rather struggled for a two-hour before reaching midway to the health centre Sumbal,” he said “The vehicle was available from there.”

When contacted AEE R&B Sumbal he said that the snow was cleared from the road stretch from Hakabara to Safapora on Tuesday. “However more snowfall accumulated on the road and is being cleared soon.”

Dr Muzaffar Medical Officer Community Health Centre told the news agency that no call was received on the helpline number which has established for emergency purposes.“We would have made best efforts to reach out to the family.”
