Srinagar-Jammu highway to remain shut for 5 days, say officials

Srinagar: Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir with rest of the world, remained closed on Monday and shall continue to be shut for “at least” five more days, officials said.

The thoroughfare was closed due to the sudden collapsing of the retaining wall of an important bridge at Kela Morh, Ramban with no optional immediate carriageway available.

“Jammu-Srinagar highway is closed due to sudden damage of bridge at Kela Morh, Ramban. It will take at least 05 days to repair the damaged bridge as stated by NHAI,” a traffic department official said.

However, the official said, Jammu-Doda-Kishtwar, Jammu-Ramban, Magerkot-Banihal, and Banihal-Qazigund stretches are through for traffic. “People are requested to take their journey accordingly.”
