IED blast in Kulgam kills army personnel, leaves 3 others injured: Police

Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that four armed forces personnel sustained injuries and one among them died later in an IED blast that took place in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district this morning.

In a statement, police said that they received information regarding an attack at Govt Middle School Subhanpora area of Kulgam where an IED blast had taken place and subsequently police officers left to visit the spot.

Police said, preliminary investigation revealed that a rudimentary IED with a low powered explosive and ball bearings was planted in an abandoned building inside the school premises, where the army personnel used to visit on a routine basis.

“The IED was planted by militants probably during the night hours. In this incident, 04 army personnel of 24RR sustained injuries and were evacuated to a nearby hospital for the treatment of their injuries,” police said, adding one among the injured succumbed to his injuries later.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 05/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qaimoh. “Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of the crime,” police said.  “Area has been cordoned and searches in the area is going on”.
